Seward was born in 1922. He was the son of Bernard Snell and Genevieve McKenney.
He earned a B.S.B.A. from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, and a M.A. from Columbia University. Then he earned a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School. He also studied at the New School for Social Research in New York City.
Seward worked as a corporate lawyer for Tenneco in Houston during much of his career, and retired about 1985. He is listed in "Who's Who in American Law. First edition. Wilmette, IL: Marquis Who's Who, 1978."
He also was an adjunct professor of law at South Texas College of Law before he retired, and joined their faculty full-time after retirement.
Seward and his wife had four children, three daughters and a son.
Seward passed away in 2011.
