Alfred Waldron Smithers was an English financier and parliamentarian. He was deputy chairman of the South Eastern and Chatham Railway and head of the Grand Trunk Railway in Canada until it was nationalized in 1921. Smithers, British Columbia, is named after him[1].
Alfred was the son of William Henry Smithers and Emma Turner.[2].
