Biography

Axel was born in 1744, and was the son of Anders Smith and Sophia Amalie Prahl. He was baptised 15 May 1744.^[1]

He was a priest, and was married to Hilleborg Dop.

At the time of the 1801 Norway Census, Axel was a priest at Øyestad parish and was in his second marriage with Hilleborg Dop. This was her first marriage. Their children were Sophia Amalia Smith, 23; Andrea Smith; 18; Ditlev Pentz, 16; Mette Cold; 15; Mettea Axeliana Hillegorg, 7; and several servants, including Stian Knudsen, who was 28 and also a national soldier.^[2]

Axel Smith passed away 20 June 1823 in Øyestad at the age of 79. His remains were buried at the church there 27 June 1823.^[3]

Research Notes

This profile originally had Rosencrantz as a middle name, but the only Axel Christian Rosenkrantz Smith I was able to find lived about a century later. I have removed the name as I suspect conflation. -Østenstad-1 12:58, 2 October 2022 (UTC)
