Maude Mary Smith was born about June 1885 in Geraldton, Western Australia (Australia). She was the eldest of five daughters of Charles Smith and Mary Morrissey. [1]
Maude married Irish-born barrister and Member of Parliament Walter Dwyer on 28th August 1912 in St Mary’s Church, Guildford, Western Australia. [2] The couple subsequently had two daughters.
Walter was defeated at the 1914 elections and returned to his legal practice. In 1926, he was appointed a judge on the State's Arbitration Court.
When Walter was knighted in January 1949, Maude became entitled as Lady Dwyer. Sadly, Walter passed away the following March.
Aged 84 years and having been widowed for nineteen years, she passed away on 8th June 1969 in Mount Lawley, Western Australia and is buried in Karrakatta Cemetery. [3]
