Biography

Emily (Smith) Edrich was born in the Colony of Victoria (1851-1900)

Emily Smith was born in 1858, her birth registered that year in Barrabool Hills, Victoria, the daughter of Thomas Smith and Tabitha Day. ^[1]

Marriage. In 1884, in Victoria, she married Richard Henry Edrich. ^[2]

Emily Edrich died in 1926, aged 68. Her death was registered Portland, Victoria, naming her parents correctly. ^[3]

MRS. EMILY EDRICH

Born at Geelong and coming to Portland when three months old, Mrs Emily Edrich, aged 68, passed away on Saturday morning at Walook after a protracted illness, for many months of which she has been confined to her bed. Practically a native of the old town, she was widely known and respected, and her death will be deeply mourned. She was a daughter of the late Mr T. Smith, of the Strawberry Gardens, West Portland, an old identity of Portland in the earlier days. Deceased, whose husband died many years ago, leaves a family of seven, most of whom are at present living in the district. They are—Thomas, Herbert, George, Eliza, Emily (decd ), [Jessie] and Elsie. The funeral took place this afternoon, the body being interred in the South cemetery. ^[4]

Burial. At the Portland South Cemetery, their headstone is in the form of an open book, with Richard's memorial on the left facing page and Emily's on the right. It reads:^[5]
