Biography

Harriet was born on 13 June 1858 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, the daughter of Thomas Smith and Eliza Camwell. In 1881 she had moved south to East Woodhay, Hants, and according to the 1881 census when she was 23, Harriet was a lady's maid at Ivy House, which was owned by Richard Bassett, Magistrate and deputy Lieutenant.

She married William Shrimpton (Shrimpton-271) on 25 February 1882 at St. Martin, Kentish Town, England. They had six children, four girls and two boys. In 1891 the family were living at 11 Strode Road, Fulham, London. At the time of the 1901 census the family had moved to 2 Strode Road and Harriet was working as a dressmaker as well as caring for her children. In 1911 she was still working as a dressmaker from home.

Her husband died on 12 November 1915, and she died on 21 February 1942. In her latter years she lived with her various children.
