Jim Slight is Notable.

James was born in 1855 at or about Ashby which is near Geelong in the Colony of Victoria. He was the son of William Slight and his wife Louisa (nee Moore).

James Slight known as Jim was an Australian cricketer who played in one Test in 1880, this was the first Test to be held in England. It was played at The Oval in London from September 06 - 08, 1880. He also played first class cricket for his Colony in Inter-colonial competition amongst the Australian colonies prior to Federation.

Jim Slight was also a leading Australian rules footballer in his day for the South Melbourne Football Club. This was in what was known as the Victorian Football Association (VFA) as well as a field umpire. In 1879 he is recorded as umpiring the first ever intercolonial Australian rules match, which took place in Melbourne between Victoria and South Australia.

Jim Slight married Clara Eliza Harriett “Lila” Gore in 1882, and they had at least 2 children, but nether of them lived to adulthood.

Jim Slight passed away in December 1930 and is buried in the St Kilda Cemetery, St Kilda East, Victoria. Husband of the late Clara Eliza Slight, and father of Lesley Baylis (Mrs. Cradick) and William Ralph Slight.[1]
