FAG Notes: Salem Statesman Journal, Monday, Jul 18 1994: Molalla -- Melvin J. Slate, 60, died Friday, July 15, 1994. He was born May 31, 1934 in Buckner, MO, and grew up in Hanford, CA.

He moved to Molalla in 1968 and worked for Avison Lumber Co. until poor health forced him to retire. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn, whom he married Nov. 18, 1954; daughter Linda Barber of Woodburn; sons Jesse, Calvin, Melvin and Charles, all of Molalla; mother, Dorothy Slate of Hanford; brothers, Tommy, Arthur, Jesse, George and Don, all of Molalla, Ronnie of Chico, CA, and Gary of Hanford; sisters, Wanda Thompson of Trenton, NJ, and Sherry McKinney of Wright City, MO; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 pm Wednesday in Molalla mortuary. Interment will be in Adams Cemetery.
