Biography
Martha Simpson was born in 1815 in South Wingfield, Derbyshire, England.
Her parents were John Simpson and Rebecca Simpson nee Dawes.
Martha was baptised on the 4th December 1815 at All Saints church, South Wingfield, Derbyshire
Martha married Joseph Breedon on the 25th May 1835 at All Saints church, South Wingfield church, Derbyshire.
When Martha’s husband, Joseph, died in 1842 she and her children went to live with her father. Daughter Elizabeth kept the name Breedon but in the 1851 census the other children used their mother’s maiden name, Simpson.
By the 1861 census Martha was housekeeper to George Wheatcroft. Despite using his name for thirty years and having at least two child by him, they never married.
Martha died in the March quarter of 1894 in the Belper registration district of Derbyshire.
