Biography

Elizabeth was born the daughter of Johan Peter Simon (later spelled Simmons in the United States) and Carolina Snider (also spelled Schneider ). Elizabeth was born in Prussia Germany (most likely in Ezweiler, Rhein) shortly before her family immigrated in 1857. The family story passed down is she threw her one baby shoe in the water on the way over. Bolded below is the source in the 1900 census, and is also on other recorded as the year she and her parents and some siblings immigrated, arrival was in New York. She married Norman Henry Hartzell in 1880 while they lived in Chariton , Missouri and they later moved south to Jasper Township in Taney County near present day Walnut Shade, Missouri. And her and Norman also lived with their son Ralph Delong Hartzell and grandchildren when they reached their 70's in near Branson in Taney County, Missouri. They had the following children : Elmer John Hartzell, Leroy Hartzell, Charley "Chaz" W. Hartzell, Ester Hartzell Campbell, Laurence Hartzell and Ralph Delong Hartzell.
