Research suggests that this person may never have existed. See the text for details.
Relationships between historical figures could have been simplified or even fabricated in the text to give the impression that succession remained within the same family….Precise chronology is also difficult to assess from the Sagas….The conclusion must be that the tight family network described in the Sagas is unlikely to be correct and that the relationships shown below should be treated with considerable caution.
Halfdan Sigurdsson was a son of Sigurd Halfdansson and Asta Guthbrandsdatter. Snorri places the children of Sigurd and Asta in the order Guttorm, Gunhild, Halfdan, Ingerid and Harald. [1][2]
Halfdan is said by Snorri to have been the father-in-law of Finn Arnesson.[3][4]
His death was entered as Rise in Yorkshire in 1047. [5]

↑ Unsourced and also unlikely as there appears to have been no problem in Yorkshire that year to account for his presence

I doubt that he was only three years old when his daughter was born - is his birth year wrong, or is the wrong birth year listed for Bergljot Halvdansdottir?
