when we were kids growing up in kentucky, grandma marcum would come visit and stay about a month. she took turns visiting her many kids and staying with each of them. what i remember most was she had this pill case and smelled like medicine. mom always made grandma's favorite food when she came, cooked cabbage, collard greens (which we hated), beans and cornbread. grandma loved to watch soap operas. my sisters and i laughed about it, but when we got a little older, we watched them too. grandma wasn't a real warm person, she never really talked to us much at all. the last time i saw her was in 1963, we moved to florida. just a few mo before she died, she went out to fl to visit mom once last time. that was in 1971. i was pregnant with my first child and was living in texas at ft sam houston,tx.
