We inherit from our ancestors gifts so often taken for granted. Each of us contains within this inheritance of soul. We are links between the ages, containing past and present expectations, sacred memories and future promise. – Edward Sellner
I am a proud American, grateful for those who came before me to pave the way in this great country we call home. My mother's ancestors were mostly English and Dutch and were among some of the earliest settlers of Colonial New England and New York. I am proud to be a proven direct Mayflower descendant of Pilgrims John Alden, Priscilla Mullins, Richard Warren, Edward Doty, Stephen Hopkins, Elizabeth (Fisher) Hopkins, and Francis Cooke. I have tentative lineages for Issac Allerton, Mary Norris Allerton, Mary Allerton, John Howland, Elizabeth Tilley, John Tilley, and Joan (Hurst) Tilley yet to be proven. I am a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants and the Iowa Mayflower Society. I am a direct descendant of New Netherland Settlers, the first Dutch colony in North America. I am also a direct descendant of two great grandmothers, Mary Towne Estey and Mary Ayers Parker, who were persecuted and hung together on Gallows Hill in Salem, MA on September 22, 1692. My father's family were mostly German, Swiss, and Irish and were settlers of the Pennsylvania Highlands in the 1700's. I have been researching my family's history since 2006 and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
"In all of us there is a hunger, marrow deep, to know our heritage - to know who we are and where we came from. Without this enriching knowledge, there is a hollow yearning. No matter what our attainments in life, there is still a vacuum, an emptiness, and the most disquieting loneliness." — Alex Haley, Roots

If you're looking for your ancestors that might already be on Wikitree, check out our Immigrants and Progenitors page, though it is not quite complete and does not reflect all of the profiles that already exist.
Cheers! Carrie

Welcome to the WikiTree family!
WikiTree is different because our goal is to have one profile per person, which means that all members work together as a single collaborative team. The Honor Code helps keep everything functioning smoothly as we work on one BIG tree.
The initial email from us has links you can use to get started. When you confirm your email address, you'll have an option to volunteer to add information to WikiTree, beginning with tags for your own profile. Tags are surnames, locations, concepts, etc. that you'd like to track.
If you decide to volunteer, a greeter will confirm your membership, and you'll be able to add new profiles to the tree.
Carole
P.S. I'm always happy to answer questions.
