Mabel (Shippen) Hatcher is a part of US Black heritage.

Mabel was born about 1908 in New York. She is the daughter of John Shippen,an African-American, and Maud Lee, of Native-American heritage.

The family moved to Washington, D.C. in the 1920's in pursuit of better education for their children. All of the children, including Mabel, attended college. Mabel worked for the Washington, D.C. school system. She retired prior to 1967.^[1]
