William was born in 1845. He shows up in the 1860 Census record of Benjamin Shipp and Zilpah Ballew. It is believed he is not their biological child and that his parents died before 1860.

William Robert Shipp served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He was captured on 28 Oct 1864 in Cedar Missouri. He died in confinment on 5 Feb 1865. He was buried in Illinois but his family put up a marker in Missouri for him and Hiram B Shipp. Both men died in Feb 1865 while being held buy the Union.
