Biography
Jonathan Sherwin, son of Ebenezer and Hepsibah (Cole) Sherwin, was born in Boxford, Massachusetts on Sep 6, 1729. [1][2]
He married on Feb 15, 1756, Mary Crumbie who was born in Methuen, Massachusetts on March 28, 1735. "By tradition a sister of Lieut. James Crumbie of Rindge. [1] The Bradford Vital Records records both this date and Mar 18, 1756. The February date was likely the publishing of intentions and March was the marriage. [3]
Jonathan settled in 1767 upon the Sherwin farm in the north part of Rindge. He was selectman 1769, '70, '73 and '76. His frequent election to positions of trust is evidence of the esteem in which he was held. Few men possessed an equal influence, or were wiser counselors in public affiars. [1]
His wife died May 25, 1784 and he married 2nd on June 26, 1787 Content (Barker) Lapham, widow of Captain Benjamin Lapham and daughter of Barnabas Barker. [1]
Jonathan died Feb 23, 1804 and his wife Content died April 25, 1821. They had ten children. [1]
He is buried at Meeting House Cemetery in Rindge. [4]
