Biography

George "Randy" Shields, 72, of Albemarle passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017 in his home. His funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Canton Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Mabry and Rev. Gary Hunsucker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care.

Born May 22, 1945 in Stanly County, North Carolina he was the son of the late George Washington Shields (1914-1988) and Mary (Rice) Shields (1926-?) of Norwood, North Carolina. He was a retired truck driver with Overnight Transport. Randy was a member of Canton Baptist Church and a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He started the Endy First Responders and was active for over 30 years with the Endy Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Shields is survived by his wife Sylvia (Hodge) Shields of the home, sons Randy Delaine Shields and wife Suzanne (unknown) Shields and Tommy Wayne Shields and wife Vanessa (unknown) Shields, brother Charles Thomas Shields and Richard Lee Shields, sister Sandra Kay (Shields) Patterson, grandchildren Meredith Shields Austin and husband Curtis, Jonathan Delaine Shields and wife Abree, Karie Grace Shields, and Noah Wayne Shields. A sister Wanda Sue (Shields) Kirk preceded him in death.
