Biography

Ellen was born in 1852^[1] in Iden, Sussex, England. She was the daughter of William Sharwood and Elizabeth Ford. The family lived at Iden Street near Rye, Sussex.^[2] At the time of the 1871 census Ellen was visiting Susanna Wells in Iden.^[3]

In 1872 she married Samuel Baker in West Dean, Sussex.^[4][5] Samuel worked as a corn miller and by 1881 the family lived in Merstham, Surrey.^[6][7] In 1901 he was a miller and corn merchant.^[8]

Samuel died in 1907 at the age of 55^[9] and was buried in Merstham.^[10] In 1911 Ellen lived in Low Leyton, Essex, with her daughter and son-in-law, Minnie and Alfred Riches.^[11]

She died in 1918 at the age of 65.^[12]
