Stephen was born 21 December 1910 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Stephen was the Radio Operator of the B-24 Liberator bomber, Satan's Hell Cats (42-40995), participating in Operation Tidal Wave the low-level attack on the Romanian oil refineries at Ploesti on 1 August 1943. The bomber was shot down by German Fighter Ace. All onboard perished.
