The birth of Dorothea is not known but we do know that she married before 20 May 1567 and that the youngest age for a bride was 12 meaning she was born before 20 May 1555. We also know that her parents had her before they married and that she and two siblings were legitimated on 24 Aug 1546.[6] Lastly, we know that her father was banished from Scotland and France in Mar 1540 and took refuge in Carlyle where he united with Elizabeth Carlyle who was his mistress and later his second wife. Dorothea and her two eldest siblings were likely all born between 1541 to 1546.
Scots Peerage calls her Dorothea[2] while the history of the Montgomery family calls her Mary.[4]

I am mostly just adding references and cleaning up the bio but I have changed the estimated birth date from 1524 to circa 1544. Please see the 'research notes' section for details.
Yes! Absolutely correct. This is the fallout from having dates based on guess work especially when those guesses are based on other events that are dated by guess work. The date of birth has been updated for Elizabeth and a DateGuess template added to her profile along with notes on what factors influenced the new date. I have not added a DateGuess to this profile as the error is only +/- a couple of years versus +/- six years for Elizabeth.
