William Thompson

According to my sister, who knew her, Lena was profoundly deaf as a result of scarlet fever. She was able to speak OK because she was old enough when stricken that she already could speak well. But people had to write to her in a notebook because she couldn't hear.

In spite of that, she became postmistress of Nelson, PA. After her parents died, she went to live with her sister, in Pittsfield, MA.
