John Silas Seaton was born on 8 September 1827, in Jefferson, Kentucky, United States. His father was Richard Seaton, and his mother, Eleanor (Mundell) Seaton. He married Sarah Jane Vickers on 1 May 1856, in Adams, Illinois, United States. [1] They were the parents of 1 son and 1 daughter. John's wife passes away after just 9 years of marriage, then 5 years following, he married Melissa Lavinia Bull on 26 October 1865, in Cuyahoga, Ohio, United States. [2][3] They were the parents of 2 sons and 2 daughters, the second dying in infancy. He lived in Camp Point, Adams, Illinois, United States for about 50 years. He died on 7 June 1910, at the age of 82, [4] and was buried in Pleasant View Cemetery, Camp Point, Adams, Illinois, United States. [5]

Camp Point, Ill., June 8---
John Silas Seaton, a pioneer citizen of Camp Point, passed away at the family home last evening at 6 o'clock, his death being due to cancer, which developed on the side of his head some two years ago. He had sustained one operation, which gave him temporary relief, but his condition has grown steadily worsen, until death gave him merciful release. Mr. Seaton was born in Jefferson county, Kentucky, Sept. 8th, 1827, the son of Richard and Eleanor (Mundell) Seaton. His parents emigrated from there to Illinois, coming here Oct. 11th, 1835, their family then consisting of Kenner, John, and James, Margaret and Rebecca, and the children's aged grandmother, Jane Seaton, who died the following year, and whose burial was the first to take place in what is now Pleasant View churchyard. The youngest child Richard was born in December following the families arrival. The first home was a substantial log cabin built without nails, and not quite completed when the family arrived. in 1853, the brothers, John and James journey across the plains by ox teams and saddled horses to the Pacific coast. Returning by way of he Isthmus of Panama, Gulf of Mexico, then up the Mississippi River. The trip was undertaken for the benefit of James health. James contacted Panama fever, from the effects of which he died the following year. On may 1st 1856, John Seaton was married to Sarah Jane Vickers, whose only surviving brother Howard Vickers is now a resident of Burton township. to this union two children were born, a daughter, now Mrs. A.L. Horner, and a son James M., who lives on a farm adjoining, his fathers. Mrs. Seaton died Nov. 24th 1860. On Oct 25, 1865, Mr. Seaton was married to Melissa L. Bull of Cleveland, Ohio. whose father , the late Norman A. Bull, was a cousin to Lorenzo and C.H. Bull of Quincy. Two children were born to this marriage. a son, Alfred., of Camp Point, and a daughter who died in infancy a few months after her mother's death which occurred on March 11th, 1870. Besides the daughter and two sons there survives four grand children. Mrs. Henry L. Myers of Fowler; Mrs. Warren H. Hoke of Denver, Col., and Miss Kathryn L. Horner and John S. Seaton Jr. of Camp Point.
