Anna Maria was born in 1838. Her parents were Johann Henrick Schuckmann (1801-1867) and Anne Maria Wilhelmine Amalie Hoellmann (1815-1860). She had a twin brother, Simon August Louis Shuckmann. The last name is spelled Schuckman in some records. Most American records give her name as simply Mary rather than Anna Maria.

She came to the U.S. at age 10 with her parents and settled in Indiana.
She married Karl Hamke in 1860. They lived on a farm in Knox County, Indiana. There were 11 children from that marriage:
She passed away in 1922. She is buried in Freelandville Memorial Cemetery.
