Biography

Charles "Carl" Schneider was born 4 Oct 1837 in Iffezheim, Rastatt, Baden-Württemberg, Germany ^{[1] [2]}. He immigrated to the United States with his parents in 1840 when he was about three years old^[3]. In 1850, Charles was 12 and his family was living in Liverpool, Medina, Ohio, USA where his father, Matthias, was a farmer. They were living with the Frederick Eckerfell (blacksmith) family. On the census, they are listed together in dwelling number 1357 and their last name is spelled Snyder^[4].

He was married to Barbara Stein on 2 May 1864 in Sharpsburg, Mercer County, Ohio, United States ^[5][6].

Research Notes

There is some evidence that Carl and Barbara had twins in 1864 who died at or shortly after birth. Labeled as "Twin 1" and "Twin 2" with one of them being female, they appear to have been imported into Ancestry.com via the OneWorldTree acquisition. A citation exists for one child with a date of birth 05 Dec 1864 at FamilySearch.org, but it also references OneWorldTree. Perhaps the original data came from someone's personal family history (e.g., a family Bible or oral history) and it was not properly cited on OneWorldTree.
