Biography

Maria Katharina Berta was the daughter of Joseph Schneider and Maria Katharina Hofstetter. She was baptised on 7 April 1895 at Benken.^[1]

Maria Katharina married Ernst Christen (b. 1890), son of Johann Christen and Anna Bärtschi, on 28 August 1922 at Benken.^[2]

Marie was 33 years old and Ernst was 38 when they immigrated from Switzerland to the United States, departing from Bremen on the Dresden on October 11, 1928. At the time of immigration, the couple had a five year old daughter named Marie and a three year old son named Ernst.^[3]

The 1940 United States Census lists Mary as a 45 year old married white woman living with her husband, daughter, and son in Imperial, California. It is noted that Mary was born in Switzerland.^[4]

The 1950 United States Census lists Mary as a 55 year old married white woman living with her husband, daughter, and a lodger in Fontana, California. It is noted that Mary was born in Switzerland.^[5]

Mary died at the age of 89.^[6] Her remains were interred at Green Acres Memorial Park in Bloomington, San Bernardino, California.^[7]
