Caroline Webster Schermerhorn Astor is my 5th cousin 5x removed. In my tree Webster is not a surname of mother's maiden, grandparents, or great-grandparents. Husband William Backhouse Astor Jr (1829-1892) and Caroline were the parents of 5 children, Emily Astor Van Alen, Charlotte Augusta Astor Drayton, Helen Schermerhorn Astor Roosevelt, Caroline Schermerhorn Astor & John Jacob Astor IV (I think IV). Helen Astor m. James Roosevelt Roosevelt II is the half-brother of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and sister-in-law of (Anna) Eleanor Roosevelt Roosevelt (they were cousins of some degree). Additionally, John Jacob Astor IV died on the Titanic, he & his pregnant bride returning from their Parisian honeymoon, she a Titanic survivor. A son was born, who was named, I think, John Jacob Astor VI.

I do. I don't see a Webster name in at least 3 prior generations. I do see the Webster name used as a middle name periodically when not a family name. I always consider that if it's not a family name, or a benign feminine/masculine middle name, it might be for a famous person whom the family revered - "One of the nation's greatest orators, Daniel Webster (1782–1852) lent his eloquence to the cause of national unity during the tumultuous years leading to the Civil War."

Does anybody have the pedigree for her mother's father, Henry White?
