Dorothea had a sister, Katherine (Scharff) Feuerhelm (4 February 1854 – 12 April 1917).

Dorothea (21) married Julius Friedrich Feuerhelm (24) (born on 26 August 1849 in Staffelde, Soldin, Neumark, Brandenburg, Preußen; son of Wilhelm Karl Friedrich Feuerhelm and Augusta Louise (Conrad) Feuerhelm) on 30 April 1874 in Lansing, Allamakee County, Iowa, USA.

They had 10 known children.
