Wilhelm Schafer was born 20 Aug 1851 in Chernigov province according to his German obituary.^[1] His ship manifest lists his birth in Horodok, Russia (also Gorodok colony in Chernigov). His obituary states the year born was 1850.

He married Katharina Kampf on 25 Aug 1869. In 1882, the family moved to Kronental, North Caucasus.

He came to America departing Bremen via S.S. Frankfurt on 24 Oct 1907 arriving 17 Nov 1907 to Galveston, Texas.^[2][3]
