François de Savoie, was born in 1454, probably at Geneva[1] the eighteenth of the nineteen children of Louis I, Duc de Savoie, and his wife Anne de Lusignan.[2]
He was educated at the court of France, and was granted many benefices when he was still quite young, including Provost of Grand Saint Bernard in 1459, and Prior of Payerne and Romainmôtier in 1482, and Saint Sulpice in 1483. He was elected Bishop of Lausanne several times by the cathedral, but never confirmed by the Pope.[1]
He was named as Archbishop of Auch in 1483, and administrator of the Bishopric of Geneva in 1484. At the death of his nephew Charles I, Duke of Savoy on 14 March 1490, he was named Governor General of the Duchy, but died about seven months later on 3 October 1490 at Turin.[1]
He had an illegitimate son, with an unnamed woman;
Jean François de Savoie, who succeeded as Bishop of Geneva in 1513[2] and died 7 February 1522.[3]
