Léon-Auguste Saulque was born on 1 October 1852 in les Blancs, a hamlet within the commune of Champoléon. He was the son of Joseph Saulque, a farm owner aged 42 years, and Judith Bernard, a farmer aged 32 years.[1]

Auguste arrived in America with his brother Pierre, in San Fransisco in 1877 aboard the La Gascogne from Le Havre, France. [2]

Auguste married Rosine in 1887 at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church which is located across from the Los Angeles Union Train Station and is in the heart of Olvera Street, a part of El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument. It was officially founded in 1781 in Los Angeles, and was renamed to Olvera Street in 1877. [3]

Auguste & Rosine had the following children;

Gilbert Leon Pierre (1887-1966)
Augusta (1889-1893)
Anna Marie (1892-1989)

7 Sep 1906 Auguste received his citizenship to the United States at Los Angeles County Civil Court. [4]
