Herbert Livingston Satterlee (1863–1947) was an American lawyer, author, and businessman. From 1908 to 1909, he served as the United States Assistant Secretary of the Navy. He is a direct descendant of Robert Livingston, the first Lord of colonial America's Livingston Manor, through his paternal grandmother, Mary LeRoy Livingston.[1]

In 1910, Satterlee and his wife Louise Pierpont Morgan Satterlee purchased historic Sotterley Plantation in Hollywood, Maryland. It was restored and opened to the public after Herbert died, and was designated as a National Historic Landmark. [4]
