LOCAL AND GENERAL.

Death of Mr. J. H. Sansom. — After an illness extending over some months, Mr. J. H. Sansom, of William Town, died at the residence of his mother-in-law (Mrs. Atkins), Raymond Terrace, on Monday night last. The deceased was a son of Mr. Wm. Sansom, now of Raymond Terrace, but formerly of William Town, and head of the respected and widely known family who have resided there so long.

For many years the deceased lived 'across the swamp ' at William Town, where he followed the avocation of a dairy farmer and market gardener, and with a good deal of success. Some two years ago he erected a residence on the roadside at William Town, where he removed to, and was residing until brought to Raymond Terrace to be nearer medical aid in his illness.

He was well known throughout the lower end of the river, possessed a straightforward character, and was consequently highly regarded as a neighbour by those who adjoined him, and as a friend by a very wide circle of acquaintances.

He leaves seven sons and three daughters by his former marriage, and two children (a son and a daughter) by his second marriage.

His sons are Messrs. John, Joseph, James, Thomas, George, Frederick and Cecil, and his daughters Mrs. E. Sutton, Mrs. F. Russell, and Mrs. Williams.

He was a brother of Messrs. George, Joseph and William Sansom, of William Town, and of the late Mr. Fred Sansom, also of William Town, and Mrs. W. Markey, of Raymond Terrace. He was 61 years of age.

The funeral on Tuesday afternoon was one of the largest that has passed through the town, and considering the short notice it was a tribute of the respect and sympathy shown for the deceased and the family.

The Rev. M. Garbett officiated at the graveside, and the funeral arrangements were conducted by Messrs. C. H. Boots and Sons. ^[6]
