William Salter was born in Portsea Island, Hampshire, England.

William was born in 1857 in Portsea Island, Hampshire, England.[1] He was the son of William Matthew Salter and Sarah Palmer.

William was baptised on 5 November 1857 in Portsea, Hampshire, England.[2]

On 9 July 1879 William married Alice Dyer at St Mary's Church in Portsea, Hampshire, England.[3] William was a Seaman Gunner stationed at HMS Excellent, a naval shore establishment on Whale Island in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England.

The 1901 England and Wales Census shows the couple, two siblings and other family members living in Twyford Avenue, Stamshaw, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England.[4] William was 43 years old and was working as an Assistant Fitter (Electrical) in HM Dockyard.

William passed away in 1909 in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England.[5] He was 51 years old.
