Edward Salmon was born on 3 Feb 1754 at Hassall Hall, near Sandbach. His baptismal record has not been found, but his birth date can be deduced from an account of his coming of age celebration at age 21.[1]
That same account tells us that Edward was at Brasenose College, Oxford, around 1775, and the Oxford Alumni record confirms this. He received his B.A. in 1777 and his M.A. in 1780.[2]
Richard became the Vicar of Sandbach in 1787.[2][3]
He married Elizabeth Barrow of Salford on 7 Jul 1799 at the Collegiate Church of St Mary, St Denys, and St George in Manchester, which later became Manchester Cathedral.[4]
Richard and Elizabeth had the following children:
Elizabeth Ann Salmon, baptized on 12 Sep 1800 at Sandbach.[5]
Richard Edward Lowndes Salmon, baptized on 19 Dec 1801 at Sandbach.[6]
Frances Salmon, baptized on 12 Sep 1803 at Sandbach.[7]
Harriet Charlotte Salmon, baptized on 21 Jan 1805 at Sandbach.[8]
Henry Lowndes Salmon, baptized on 3 Jun 1807 at Sandbach.[9]
Esther Luisa Salmon, baptized on 20 Apr 1812 at Sandbach.[10]
George Frederic Salmon, baptized on 1 Mar 1817 at Sandbach.[11]
Arthur Ker Salmon, baptized on 3 Sep 1822 at Sandbach.[12]
On 27 September 1808 Richard became chaplain to the First Corps of Volunteers at Sandbach.[13] This was one of a number of Volunteer Corps that were established as a method of home defence during the Napoleonic Wars.[14]
Edward died on the 29 January 1828 at Sandbach, aged 73, and he was buried on 6 February 1828.[15]
His will was made on 28 July 1825, and probate was issued on 12 Jun 1828.[16]
A memorial to him was erected in St Mary's Churchyard, Sandbach.[17]
