Canadian novelist and playwright George Ryga rose to fame with the publication of The Ecstasy of Rita Joe and Other Plays in 1970.

The son of Ukrainian immigrants, he was born on July 27, 1932 in Deep Creek, Alberta. He married Norma Lois Campbell. George and Norma lived in Edmonton, Alberta in 1962. [1] By 1968 they had moved to Summerland, British Columbia. [2]

He died in 1987. His remains were cremated. [3] [4]
