It's time for the One Place Studies Project Check-In!

We've put together a survey for you to fill out to check in with you, it will only take a moment as there are only a few questions. Filling out the survey lets us know you are still interested in coordinating your study and provides an opportunity for you to share any suggestions you may have for the project.

If you have decided to step away from your study, please reply to this comment to that effect.

I have decided to abandon my Skelmanthorpe study as the place is too large - I do still have an interest in its history, however. I have started a new One Place Study of Ribchester, Lancashire where my ancestors originally came from. I will be studying this from 1700 until 1871 when they moved away. Would it be possible to make the adjustments please and change Skelmanthorpe to Ribchester. Thanks John

Hi John,

Thanks for having a big heart and adopting the Orphaned Profiles. Did you by any chance have an earlier WikiTree account and created these profiles? If so, your earlier profile still exists and the two should be merged together. Let me know and I'll get that process started.

This After Adopting Orphans FAQ explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need.

Let me know if you have any questions on how to find and record sources, merge duplicates, clean up gedcom biographies, and interpret the Suggestions report. I'm here to help!

Greetings John

I am happy to congratulate you for upgrading, you are all set to be able to add and edit profiles now! To help save you time, energy and frustration, please start with our New Member How-To pages.

Thank you for adding your DNA Test information to your profile on WikiTree. Your information will be propagated to the profiles of your parents and your ancestors within about 24 hours of being added. It will also propagate to the profiles of the descendants of your ancestors, so they may see your information under the heading "DNA Connections" just as you can see theirs.

We do enter our DNA testing information and it is very easy to do. On the top right of most pages there is an active button "ADD." If you hover over that button there is a drop-down box and the first item is DNA. Click on that and follow the instructions. You can enter your testing company and the type of test such as Y-DNA, mtDNA or Autosomal (Family Finder): Ancestry, FTDNA, My Heritage, and GedMatch are examples of the companies. You will also add your identifying information such as the kit # for FTDNA.

As you add more profiles the information will continue to show up on all the appropriate ancestors' profiles.

Here are some helpful links DNA Features on Wikitree, GEDMatch.com, and Getting Started with DNA FAQ.

Welcome to the WikiTree family! If you have questions about how WikiTree works, please let me know. You can use the "reply" link under this comment or click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Hi John,

We realise the time has come to dissolve the UK Project in favour of the individual country projects of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

We are checking in with all UK badge holders to find out which country project(s) you would like to be in so you can collaborate with other members, have the opportunity to select which team(s) you would like to join, and so we can ensure you have all the correct badges.

Please respond by PM to let us know which country project(s) you would like to be in. Please don’t assume we know. We are effectively starting from scratch to make sure no one falls through the cracks.

Once you have done this, the Coordinator for Membership in the relevant country project(s) will be in touch to help get you situated.

Many thanks,

Susie

Hi John

I’m the new Project Coordinator for the England Project. I am contacting you, as there have been some recent changes to the project which we are keen to bring to your attention. Please look at the England Project page for more information on the changes and the ways members are able to actively contribute moving forward. Once you have considered how you would like to participate, please contact either myself or Susie to let us know. We can then list your involvement, help you join the Google group forum for England, and give you any other help you may need t get going. If we don’t hear back from you we’ll assume you do not wish to be a part of the England Project for the time being. We really hope you will join the team! Gillian

Hello, John -

Welcome to WikiTree! The initial email from us has helpful links that will get you started on WikiTree, which is not like any genealogy site you've ever used.

WikiTree is different because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we all work together as a BIG collaborative team!

What brings you to WikiTree? Do you have research you'd like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree? When you confirm your email address, you'll have an opportunity to volunteer and tell us about your genealogical interests.

Once you volunteer, one of our Greeters will be happy to confirm your membership, and you'll be on your way!

Welcome to the family! We're really glad you're here.
