Biography

The daughter of Mortimer Ryan and Henrietta (Downs) Ryan, Florence Ryan was born in the village of Medina, New York^{[citation needed]} in 1875, residing there with her family.^[1][2][3] By 1900, her father had retired as a grocer and Florence and her parents lived in Rochester, New York, where Florence worked as a sales person, working at a dry goods store.^[4] Florence's father passed away in 1903 and her mother became the head of their household in Rochester.^[5][6]

Florence married Ernest Abbott, the son of Rev. Richard Abbott and Mary E. Burbank, marrying in Medina, New York on November 30, 1905^{[citation needed]} and making their home in Rochester, New York, where Ernest Abbott worked as an assembler at the Eastman Kodak Camera Company factory.^[7][8] By 1930, residing in Rochester, Florence's husband worked as a salesman at a dry goods store.^[9] By 1940, the couple lived in Buffalo, New York, where Ernest worked as a researcher at a museum, working on a Works Progress Administration Project.^[10]

Widowed in 1943 after her husbands death from injuries sustained from a fall on an icy Buffalo street. Florence Abbott passed away at the age of 80^{[citation needed]} and has a marker in the family plot at Boxwood Cemetery in Medina, New York.^[11]
