Herbert Lindsay Rutherford was born on 15 April 1889 in Camberwell, Victoria, Australia, son of Ellen Frances (Clemes) Rutherford and Alfred Hellyer Rutherford.^[1]

He married Nellie Agnes Slorach in 1919 in Victoria.^[2] Their children were:

• Dorothy Rutherford (1929–2009)

Herbert died on 28 June 1966 in Melbourne, Victoria, aged 77 years.^[3]
