James Rutherford was born at Edinburgh, Midlothian Scotland on 18 OCT 1841 to Robert Rutherford and Phillis Thomson.

He married Lucy Jane Pilcher in 1880 at Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia.

James passed away on 14 Mar 1908 at Auburn, New South Wales, Australia. He dropped dead in the bar of the Locomotive Hotel at Auburn. He is buried in the Rookwood Cemetery, The Coroner's finding was that the deceased died on the 14th March, 1908, from natural causes, to wit, failure of the action of the heart. http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article85978524
