Biography

William Ruther Rutherford was born on 18 July 1876 in Waddington, St. Lawrence, New York to Scottish-Americans William James Rutherford and Isabella T. Veitch.

William was a high school graduate, most likely of the class of 1894 at the school in Waddington.

He married Agnes Jane Cline on 2 November 1898 in Waddington, and together they had six children: Helen, Frances, William "Jay", Robert, Jessie, and Agnes "Isabel".

Originally, William worked as a farmer on land on Buck Road that he most likely inherited. Later in life he moved to the Village of Waddington and worked a variety of jobs, including as a Ford salesman, mechanic, and hotel clerk. He was also employed by the Town of Waddington as a laborer for the Waddington Milk Company for several years.

He was a dedicated member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Waddington.

William passed away in his sleep on 27 October 1960 at his home on Lincoln Ave in Waddington following a period of declining health and is buried in Brookside Cemetery.
