Biography

Jannette (Russell) Forbes is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Rockford, Illinois.

Jannette was born in 1807.

She married Duncan Forbes in 1831. ^[1]

They immigrated to the United States in 1842. They first settled in New York. ^[2]

In 1854 the moved to Rockford where he build an iron foundation. ^[3]

Janette passed away in 1881. ^[4]

Obituary

By the death of Mrs. Janette (Russell) Forbes, relict of the late Duncan Forbes, Esq., which occurred Sunday, the Presbyterian Church loses one of its oldest and most beloved members who has always lived a consistent Christian life.

Deceased had been sick since last October but not do bad but that she could be up and about the house, until two weeks ago when she was obliged to retire to her bed as her heart troubled her greatly and finally resulted in her dissolution.

Deceased was born in Sterling, Scotland, May 30 1807 and was consequently at the age of her death nearly seventy four years of age.

Mrs. F. Immigrated to this country in 1842 and first settled with her husband in Troy, New York. She subsequently removed to Whitesboro, N. Y. Where she resided until 1854, at which time on the first of July, the family removed to this city.

Her husband, Duncan Forbes, Esq. died in this city April 8, 1871, nearly ten years ago. She leaves three children, A.D. Forbes, Esq., George R. Forbes. Esq., and Mrs. W.O. Wormwood, all of whom reside in this city.

Her husband when he came here established a foundry and engaged in the manufacture of stoves and machinery castings. In 1864 in company with his son, Alexander D. He established the firs malleable iron works west of Cincinnati, which business has been conducted by A. F. Since his father’s death and each year his business has increased until at the present time it ranks with the best and largest in the country.
