1st Marriage to Thomas Edward Bailey

On 21 Dec 1853 in Chesterfield, Virginia, 28-year-old Mary Elizabeth Rudd married 24-year-old Thomas Edward Bailey. It is thought by some family historians that Thomas E. Bailey's father was Josiah Bailey (1796 - ? – 1880) and his mother was Lucinda Martin (1805 - ? - 1835). At the time this profile was created supporting documents were lacking to verify this relationship.

War Between The States

Death of Thomas Edward Bailey

On 24 May 1861 in Chesterfield, VA., Thomas Edward Bailey Sr., enlisted in Company K, 6th Virginia Infantry Regiment with the rank of Private. On 15 April 1862 he was promoted to Sergeant.

On 2 June 1862 near Charles City Cross Roads, he was involved in a conflict (part of the Battle of Seven Pines) and was mortally wounded; the war record states that he was "wounded in the right arm." He was discharged from duty on 7 July 1862 and died three days later on 10 July 1862.

2nd Marriage to Edward Rudd

On 1 Sept 1863 in Chesterfield County, Virginia, the 37-eary-old widow, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth (Rudd) Bailey married 51-year-old Edward Rudd.
