Biography

Rose Sarah Anne Rucker was born 17 July 1877 in Liberty Hill, Wiliamson County, Texas to parents Richard Morton Rucker and Emily Jane Cox. She was the fourth of eleven children. Shortly after her birth the family moved to New Mexico from Texas. The family has not been found in 1880 census but a homestead application shows that her father applied for 160 AC in Virden, Grant County, NM and it had an adobe house. He also purchased mining rights 17 Sept 1880 in Silver City, Grant County, New Mexico. 1885 the family is still in New Mexico as evidenced by the agricultural census. As mentioned in her mother's diary, Rose left Anaheim, CA for Aunt Sarah Imus' house in Hackberry, AZ by Santa Fe train (2 years before her marriage). By 1895 and through 1899, Richard and Emily Jane, Rose's parents, were living in Anaheim, California and that is certainly where she met her husband to be, Jerry Seaman. The couple were married on 22 August 1897 in La Habra, Orange County, California.

As mentioned in her mother's diary, "Rose left for Colorado" from Anaheim on 23 Oct 1899 and she must have been 7 months pregnant. About 1900, family tradition states that Jerry helped build the stone Santa Ana Courthouse and Rosie cooked for the construction workers, it opened in 1901. From 1904-1908, they were living in Delores County, Colorado where 3 of their children were born. In Nov 1914, after a 9 month trip, the family arrived in Corona, California and met Barney Oldfield, watching him race his automobile in Corona,California. About 1918, Rosie had a boarding house in Tustin or Olive as remembered by her grandchildren. About 1927, during the Dust Bowl days, Jerry and Rosie may have owned a boarding house and gas station in Barstow, California. Jerry and Rosie had at least 11 children with ten of them surviving to adulthood.
