Biography

John Royle (mother's maiden name Ellison [1]. was born in the June quarter of 1872 in the Northwich district of Cheshire, England [2].

In 1881 John was living with his family at 114 Weaver St, Over, Cheshire [3].

In 1891, aged 18, John was a servant in the household of Henry Barnett, a farmer, at Manor Farm, Church Minshull, Church Minshull, Cheshire, England [4].

In the June quarter of 1895, John married Sarah Blake in the Northwich district of Cheshire [5].

Their daughter Jessie was born in the March quarter of 1896 and the birth Registered in the Northwich Registration District [6].

Their daughter Clara was born in the March quarter of 1901and the birth Registered in the Northwich Registration District [7].

Their son Harry was baptised at Little Leigh on 12th Feb 1899 [8].

In 1901 John (29, a county council rough labourer, born Over) and Sarah (28) were living in Little Leigh, Over, Cheshire together with their daughters Jessie (5, born Over) and Clara (3 months, born Little Leigh) and son Harry (born Barn W[indeciherable]). Also in the household were visitors Samuel Blake (23, a Chemical labourer) and his wife Eliza Blake (22) [9].

Their daughter Lily was baptised at Little Leigh on 5th March 1905 [10].

Their daughter Sarah Ellen was born on 20th April 1910 and baptised at Little Leigh on 24th April 1910 [11].

In 1911 the family was still living in Little Leigh. John's occupation is County Council Roadman. The children were now Jessie (15, a domestic servant), Harry (12, born Barnton, Cheshire), Clara (10), Lily (7 born Little Leigh) and Sarah Ellen (1 born Little Leigh) [12].

John died, aged 47, in 1920 [13].
