Biography

Joseph was born about 1775 in Virginia. He was the son of John Royall.

Joseph married Elizabeth Thomas on 11 August 1794 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia.[1] Joseph and Elizabeth may have had at least six children including:

  1. Thomas Royal
  2. Nancy Royal
  3. Elizabeth Royal
  4. William Royal

In the 1810 census, Joseph Royal was in Surry, North Carolina, United States. His household consisted of himself and his wife (free white persons 26-44) and six children under the age of 16.[2]

In the 1820 census, Joseph was living in Wilkes, North Carolina, United States. His household included himself (free white male over age 45), his wife (free white female 26-44), one child aged 10-15 and five children under age 10.[3]

Joseph died in 1830 and was buried in Liberty Knob Regular Baptist Church Cemetery, Roaring Gap, Alleghany County, North Carolina, United States. [Note: Roaring Gap is near the border of Alleghany and Wilkes Counties.][4]
