Henry Augustus Rowland was born on 27 Nov 1848 at Wayne County Pennsylvania. He is a son of Henry Augustus Rowland Jr and Harriet Heyer. He passed away in 1901 at Baltimore, Maryland. He is a member of Rowland Y-DNA Group
He was an American physicist known for diffraction grating. Considered one of the most brilliant scientists of his day, he became the the first president of the American Physical Society (1899-1901).
The Rowland Institute for Science of Harvard University is named for him. [1]
Rowland Crater, a large carter on the far side of the moon is named for him. [2]

Selected Papers of Great American Physicists, in The Bicentennial Commemorative Volume of The American Physical Society 1976, published his biography[4] along with his papers on the Screw and The Highest Aim of the Physicist.
