James Rowe is an Anzac who served in World War Two.
Corporal James Rowe was a Prisoner of War with the Japanese at Changi during World War II.
James was a Bank Officer.
Biography
James known as Jim Rowe was born in Woollaraha, New South Wales in 1916. [1]
He was an ANZAC who served in World War 2 NAA: B883, NX71869 and for some of that time he was a prisoner of war in Changi.[2] Allied Troops liberated Changi on 5th September 1945, [3] and Jim was one of those liberated.
After the war in 1949, Jim married Priscilla Williamson. [4] Jim and his wife continued to live in Sydney, New South Wales where they had 2 daughters. Jim Rowe continued working as a bank officer after the war. He took early retirement, enjoying some volunteering, and adult education courses until age 91; languages, particularly French and Italian, being his main interest. He was an enthusiastic traveller, he and Priscilla enjoyed six trips to Europe together. [5]
Jim passed away on 12th September 2008 aged 92. His death notice published on 17th September 2008 in the Sydney Morning Herald describes him as "late of St David's Village, Forestville." [6]
