6th president of Guyana Janet Rosenberg was born October 20, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois, United States.[1] She was a daughter of Charles Brown Rosenberg and Katherine Kronberg.[1][2]
In December 1942, while working as a student nurse at Cook County Hospital, she met Cheddi Jagan, an Indo-Guyanese dentistry student at Northwestern University. They married on August 5, 1943, and in December that year she moved with him to Guyana, where they opened a dental clinic, and became involved in labor activism together.[3]
In 1992, he became the president of Guyana. He died in 1997. She took over his role, and was elected in December 1997 as president. She resigned in 1999 due to poor health.[4]
