Sir William Romney, Haberdasher and Sheriff of London 1604[1] (whose pedigree is recorded in the Visitations of London, 1583 and 1633), only son of William Romney, of Tetbury, co. Gloucester, and Margaret, his wife, was born about 1555.
He was Knighted 26 July 1603. He was also a Merchant Adventurer and a member of the Levant Company. He married, before 1587, Rebecca Taylor, daughter and only heir of Sir Robert Taylor of St Magnus, London and Alderman of London.[2][3]
His estate, through his widow, founded four Exhibitions for the Haberdashers' Company (2 at Emmanuel College and 2 at Sidney Sussex College) at Cambridge.
He died 25 April and was buried 23 May I611 at St Magnus, London.[2]
