Biography

Martha Ruth was born in 1745, in Lebanon, Hunterdon, New Jersey. She was the daughter of Thomas and Frances Rogers, of Hunterdon. Her father was an immigrant from England.

In 1763 she married her cousin' James Hugh Martin. They had eleven children.

In May 1774, she moved with her husband and young children from New Jersey to Guilford County, North Carolina.

After the Revolutionary War, James began buying a lot of land where he would build his Snow Creek Plantation.

She died here in 1795. She is believed to be buried at the family cemetery located on the plantation.
